The importance of location
The concept of dry ports is a strategic response to the challenges of modern logistics and sustainable transport. These inland transshipment and distribution hubs functionally support seaports by relieving overloaded coastal terminals, reducing transport costs, shortening delivery times, and minimizing the environmental impact of intensive traffic in port agglomerations. By utilizing rail and intermodal transport, dry ports play a crucial role in the green transformation of the TSL sector (Transport-Shipping-Logistics). At the crossing of rail systems of different gauges, dry ports also provide a natural place for transshipment between these systems.
In light of geopolitical shifts, the growing trade exchange with Ukraine, and the urgent need to rebuild supply chains in Central and Eastern Europe, Poland is emerging as a natural logistics hub for the continent. Two major investments located near the country’s eastern border – Euroterminal Chełm and Euroterminal Dorohusk– are poised to play a pivotal role in this transformation. Together, these ports constitute an integrated logistics platform that anchors the eastern transshipment corridor of Poland and the EU. Their development is not merely an investment in infrastructure – it is a strategic opportunity to strengthen Poland’s position as a regional leader in intermodal transport and as an active participant in global supply chains in the new economic era.
